A very cool 1955 Ford that I found at a small show in Erie, Colorado back in 2010. I have not seen it since, unfortunately.

  9. I do agree customs look smooth with skirts, but not every custom ran skirts in the 50s hamb104.jpg hamb100.jpg hamb98.jpg hamb6-13.jpg hamb7-13.jpg hamb76.jpg

Couple of pix I found in my stash...first up is Ron Brown's '56 Caddy...nosed, lowered and skirted. This "look' was a few years ago, it's now been completely redone-new copper paint, leather interior, etc...

    DSCN6473.JPG

Second up is Ron's '57 Ford Retractable...I watched this car transform from junk to the stunner it is today. Ron sold this car to someone back east just after he bought the above Caddy...

    DSCN1005.JPG

    Enjoy...

    40StudeDude,
Was the distinctive grille in Ron's Ford done the same way as your avatar Caddy? I would like to learn more.

  13. Love the '56 Olds dash. That is one of my favorite dashes.

Mo, No, it was not done the same way my '55 Cadillac is...

I'd built and was driving a '57 210 two door Chevy about the time Ron was building the '57 Ford-I'd built a flat aluminum bar grille for the '57 (similar to my Caddy and sorry, but no pix of it) and Ron liked it -matter of fact, most of the modification ideas on the '57 Ford came from me (Cruiser skirts, Lakes pipes/shrouds, push button door releases (below), and the '58 Ford hood/scoop, taillights, Connie kit) cuz Ron wasn't up on old style kustoms.

Anyway, he didn't want to spend the hours to build one for the car so he went to the local junkyard...and you WILL NOT believe the grille in his '57 Ford. He purchased it and proceeded to fit it into the Ford opening. I didn't think it would fit, but he proved me wrong. The grille in the '57 Ford is/was a '58 Olds...go find some pix and look at it...

    Hope that helps...

    Get outa town!!!
For someone "not up on oldstyle customs", Ron done good!
In fact, you both did. The car's a knockout!

I know you've seen the following '57 on the Mild Custom thread, but I never get tired of looking at it.
The seamlessness (including the Connie kit) just sets it apart from the pack.

Yep, saw that '57, that's what reminded me I had pix of Ron's '57... His '56 Cadillac is going to be STELLAR...matter of fact, his "build" makes my '55 Cadillac look like an amateur restoration...needless to say Ron is a perfectionist and money is no object...BUT, he did all the work on the Caddy by himself, including all body work, primering and blocking, engine work (500 C.I. Caddy with 700R-4), engine compartment, suspension, roof scoop, trunk & interior upholstery, air bags, etc. with the exception of the paint. It's water-base and gorgeous...here's a sneak peek...

Damn, that's gorgeous! Some say customs should be displayed with the hood shut, but often what's underneath is also worth the price of admission. Ron's is a case in point. (Just look at that smooth firewall, for instance.)

And to tie two pieces into one knot, check out this similar compartment,....but seamless!

I overheard that the owner of this Chevy,Bob Davis(that's not him driving, It`s his son or son in law) the co sponsor of the CCR show was going around telling everybody to shut their hoods. Because no matter how nice the motor is, it kills the look of a custom.

bob davis and kevin anderson were asking people to keep their hoods closed so others could get better pictures. anyone could open them to show someone just don't leave it up. everyone there agreed it was a great idea.

Roger - do you have any of Ron's 56 Caddy in it's new look? I have been waiting literally for years to see what it turned out like. Thanks - Dan

Dan, Sorry to say the Cadillac is not finished yet. Ron had a bout with cancer from October of last year to February of this year...was in Houston @ a cancer clinic all that time and obviously, work on the car stopped. As of March First he's been declared cancer-free and is slowly getting back on the car...I expect the car will be finished by June or so...hang in there, you'll get first chance at the photos...without giving away too much, here's another shot of the car and some of his upholstery work...
