Well today I fixed some bad spots in frame. Welded in a ton of not needed factory holes. I also welded the threaded blind plates in I made. Just getting ready to box frame. I had a small sway in the rear of frame. Got that fixed too it was not bad,but would have buged me knowing it was there. Anyway here are some pics.
Keep up the Good Work !!! Your talents and determination will show well in Your Build. I always appreciate it to see someone accomplish their Goals. Keep Your Thread Moving. Good Job !!! Jeff
Today I boxed in over half the frame. I took the frame up to a friends garage. I was a little too cold for me outside today. The x member I'm putting back in after I put the rear end in. That way I can be sure it will not be in the way of brackets. The excavator got droped off tomarow the site work for my garage is being done
I will try and keep updates coming, but winter is coming and no garage. I have one in the works and I do have access to a garage limited on what I can do there. Friends garage he uses it so can't have whole car there. So I will be working on my doors and other small stuff there.
I like what you have done. I wish I would have had a stock frame to start with. Keep up the good work.
Have to ask a stupid question - when sand blast do you do inside of body? Did a couple Jeeps in past and easy to do in & out then paint both..
Tks for answer to my stupid question - guess that the part you not get to when run out of sand. Cover & hood up for that part. Great build, love the detail.
rusty, Absolutely TOO NICE to destroy. Maybe a Model A, but IMHO, we need to maintain some of these old oddball relics in their original condition, for future generations. One of those cars you never really see. 33essex, love this suicide door body style. Have not read all 3 pages. What's the rough plan for this project?? JT
Chop top already done 2 inchs channeled about 5 inchs even with bottom of frame. 8.8 rear explorer narrowed long side 3 inchs. Narrowing pretty much gets pinion close to center. Rear 3:73 with factory posi. Front 4 inch drop x split wishbones.
For engine I was thinking nailhead 401?? with 700r4. But finding a good usable one with in reason not so easy. I'm trying not too spend to much money unless necessary. Like rear end I bought 2 Ford explorer s pulled rears sold rest for scrap made money on them. So rear = no money in it. Now I do have a engine and trans. Transmission 700r4 camaro after sold parts off it and sold rest for scrap got zero in transmission. Now for engine bought a Chevy truck for 500 kept 350 engine 95,000 original miles. Sold truck for 300 got 200 in very nice 350.
So we are actually getting started on a budget build! Keep up the good work and keep us informed of how little money you have in it, please.
I almost forgot I swapped the parts from car +$50. I was not going to use for a correct grill shell, windshield latch and windshield frame. These parts are very hard to find was looking for well over a year.
I've learned more on these 3 pages than I have in some of the shops that I've been in. . Nice education provided to us in the wood tooling. I have a 34 3W that I have a lot of this to do. I worry about the welding and hurting my eyes, but I've done tons of this stuff in 51 yrs. of being alive so, even though I use caution I still try to handle it myself. I'm working on a old 29 A roadster lakes survivor at the moment, but really want to get to the 34 as it needs belt line replacing, especially where someone welded along them many years ago. I've seen your method used to make Jeep logos on side panels, but you went/delved much deeper into a much more comprehensive understanding of how to make beads w/o a bead roller in a "panel beater" kinda way much truer to old world craftsmanship. Congrats on the job well done. I have a Bridgeport Mill and a pretty strong press, I've made male and female dies in order to press our 32's frame back into shape. It worked out pretty good. I may mill some aluminum and make some tooling to make the bead lines and a whole back window opening base on what I've seen here . I'll have to see how it will work out on some test pieces I'll make. Can't wait till you post up even more pix=Great Build!!!!!
Here are some pics of my doors. I started on passenger door first was most gone. I have been working on them here and there. They are just really rusty. The bullet holes don't help any either. I have been keeping my eye out for some better doors or a set of nice doors off a 4 door. I can make make 2 out of the 4. In the meantime I'm going to fix these over winter. There are also pics of driver side door. I have not done any work to yet.
I have a 33 5w coupe I did about 15 years ago. They are well built cars. Go to my album to see pic. Good luck and have fun!
For anyone who would like to see some more panels made from the wood buck I made. Here are some pics of panels. I just got done makeing for a friend who also has a Terraplane. They are lower quarter s behind doors and lower cowl. They will still need finish work.
