Kind of want to set it up in my yard on some old model a axles and wheels. Anyone know what the hell it is? Didn't know what prefix to put this under so I put it under projects..[IMG]

I found it on lunch at work might have to borrow a buddy's canoe and go grab it tonight. It would fit an engine trans and driver perfect if somebody really wanted to build it

the shape and the fitting scream "drop tank" to me.....

  9. I'm no expert, but I'd have to guess that with all of our genetic modification now a days it's likely a new fangled whale that's washed up ashore. Once you gut it, it would make a kick ass streamliner.

Tap the tip of it with a hammer and see if it's hollow.

I just saw Joe Dirt last night, and the crapper tank was the first thing I thought of.

My guess would be something for a boat or the like. The, apparently, Stainless-Steel fitting and the 'heaviness' of the fins on the back don't look like something appropriate for an aircraft. It is still cool though, and I'd snag it if only for yard-art purposes. I've got an original P-38 tank that will serve that purpose until my project list gets shorter...

Looks like a sonar rig. They use them here for submarine stuff I am told. There is a bunch of smaller ones exactly like that outside the local army surplus store.

Update it's got big holes in it seems to be fiberglass with maybe an aluminum tip on it fiberglassed over. I got soaked got it across the river rolled up on land hopefully it dries out enough to lift tomorrow we had to call it a night. But even if someone else comes by and grabs it we got a cool story out of it

I'm not sure what it is, although it seems like a poor design if it's a boat pontoon. If it's really military, does that mean it's been floating around for 60+ years?! And in that case, is it OK to take it?

This is amazing, I'm really hoping we get a good ID of it. And if you built it, that first picture would be the all-time ultimate "before" pic, I don't think anyone could ever top it.
