Extra work, when guys don't think that far ahead. & at one time, 'glass was a badge of honor, so... I'd rather have a door than not, myself.
BTW, Gary, how's the little VolksRod doing these days? Hope you still have it yet, & are having fun-runnin' it.

Lots of extra work and/or money. Having to build a solid, strong hinge and latch support into a fiberglass shell.
I've seen maybe 10-20% of the stuff for sale have one. There's one that just has a big hole. I won't post a pic, it's got some newer questionable parts. I've also seen frame mounted steps on a few lately.
This one just posted removed them both! it has other stuff that aren't HAMB, so just this pic. It will give you an idea why no other pics are shown for a better overall view.

I bonded and 'glassed all of the needed oak framing into mine as I was doing the floor, etc. but the whole project stalled while I was opening my shop. I met a guy through my new shop that said he'd paint it for me because he had the time before his next scheduled job. I told him that I wanted to open the passenger side door first (hoping he'd do it). He didn't take the bait. He said, that's the available window, take it or leave it.....
So, I didn't get my opening door. I was happy just to get it painted and get it running again.

  6. And of course Speedway (and others) have 'glass T bodies with a door already cut and hinged...for $2600-2800...

Man, I wish I weren't such a Large Olde Fart and could fit in one of these easily. I'd really like to build one...

The door is bigger than standard, the cowl area looks like it might not be quite as convex, but that may be from the reflection on the metallic paint. The firewall is more arched. The back corner is sharp, like a touring front half.

Even a 1926 has the bigger door but not the rise from door to cowl and has a curved windshield base. The curved firewall is not the same and the body doesn't tuck under as much. Pre '23 has a smaller, more pronounced firewall. Might be another brand touring (my guess) or a early 'glass body that has these details different than most.

  10. looks chevy to me judging by that picture. given the look of the back end of the hot rod's body i'd say it too was derived from a touring so... maybe it's still a 't' for touring...?

the grill and bed threw me but i should have picked up on the cowl shape.

  11. on the dodge the curve of the upper cowl is different.

I looked at Dodges. Between curved windshield bases 23-up and the firewall curve/top of door (body) curve, I didn't see a better match.

The other thing is where the section between the front door and rear door meets up with the seat back. The Chevy does not look exactly right, but that's easier to change than a door top.
Looked at Olds, Buick, Maxwell and others in early 20s, too.

That transition from cowl to windshield base on the chevy is pretty close too.

This is pretty cool. I ran the pic through an AI picture enhancer to blow it up and sharpen it. Looks like a '26-'27 based car.

I built one back in the early 80s when I was in High school. Kinda got my feet wet to building stuff. Drove it a while, it was cool but I wanted to move on to something a bit more weather tight, and a bit more date friendly. It was a hoot to drive. Parts of it were very unconventional, guys who knew better just shoot their heads
