The Jalopy Journal
I suspect that a lot of the issues with electronic ignition conversions are due to less than ideal installations. In general they tend to work...
It makes it a two man job. But I like the idea of having one person manning the drill motor driving the pump and a second pair of hands slowly...
If the engine holds a fairly steady idle, check the manifold vacuum in neutral. You'll hopefully see a steady 16" to 19" of vacuum. Also drive it...
Never seen a passenger van with the extra LH rear side doors. Years ago I helped a friend do some work on an early Dodge van like yours except it...
Maybe Landy thought the car needed its own cigar . . .
That Corvair van is an odd duck, isn't it? Didn't realize that Chevy ever built them with dual cargo doors on both sides. Some of the more...
Wonder if this might have been a store display model at a speed shop somewhere?
There is something decidedly "MoPar" about it, isn't there? Late 50s, early 60s . . . ? o_O
"SHINY BRITE" To me, the box and the artwork on the lid are more interesting than the actual ornaments. :D
This might be something else to consider. Are there any power or telephone lines that run thru the area where the tree and your shop are located?...
Geez. It does my heart good to see someone who understands how something like an automatic choke is supposed to work. And knows how to logically...
True, as long as you can do so in a safe manner that doesn't open you up to some future liability. I wouldn't be surprised if the two insurance...
Try contacting your insurance agent and explain your concerns to him. Send him some photos of the tree in relationship to your building and...
Oooops! I just realized that you're doing your testing with the head on the bench, not on the engine. I didn't read enough into your original...
Bear in mind that things like throttle opening, valve lash with solid lifters, and ignition timing will also affect manifold vacuum at idle.
@squirrel's post of the glove box lock photo reminded me of another source of confusion with GM's lock cylinders. It was not uncommon years ago...
Yep. That's exactly the situation I was describing in my previous post. GM did the exact same thing with their later models that used the 10 cut...
Even a new air filter will add some slight restriction to incoming air flow. That's why it's recommended to make your idle mixture adjustments...
If the glove box and trunk locks are supposed to use the same key (and both accept the same key blank) and you find a key code stamped on the...
Always puts a smile on my face seeing Bill Jenkins behind the wheel of a Plymouth. :D
Fantastic! Thanks for taking the time and effort to post this information. These older full skirt pistons seem to have been fitted differently...
I like the sound of this diagnostic procedure. It takes a valid and logical approach. And it seems like something you might never find in a...
The regulator may be marked 3 lbs., but have you checked the actual fuel pressure with a known good gauge?
Is the problem there when the engine is cold or does it only act up when it is at operating temperature? Does it happen at steady lower cruising...
Had to pump a little life back into this photo. I knew it was hiding in there somewhere! ;) [ATTACH]
Could the choke heat tube in the exhaust manifold (where you can't see it) possibly be plugged? Especially since the short fresh air tube doesn't...
Good scans of the instruction sheets would be very helpful. ;) If the tool is still in working order, then a video (even a short one) of the tool...
And Henry would've surely approved of that . . . ;)
I bet she'll treat him like one of the family. After all, he's just so cute and cuddly.
Just a couple of questions to start off. How much manifold vacuum are you pulling when idling in gear? Is the trans stock or has it been modified...
