Technical Who can repair and refinish my grilles?

I'm looking to have the grilles on my 41 Stude repaired and either polished or powder coated. They have a couple broken teeth and the passenger side needs a little straightening. Anyone know someone (preferably in the SoCal area) that could handle this? I couldn't find an Alliance Vendor that seemed like the right fit but if I overlooked someone, I'm happy to give it a shot.

show up with large wheelbarrow full of $$$ at one of the local specialty welding shops, make sure you bring a crying towel when they tell you how much OR take a shot and do them yourself after doing some research on the net.

I'd bet that grille is cast metal...and Stude didn't use the best 'pot' metal in the world back then, (ask me how I know)...so be prepared to have lots of people say "no way to fix it." But persevere, there are people out there that can repair it, you just have to find them...and be prepared to spend some dough. It'd prolly be easier to find some NOS from the Stude Driver's Club classifieds.

You're both right from what I've experienced so far. I would have to do some heavy research because as Studedude said, it is some heavily aged pot metal and I have NO idea where to start with it. I noticed last night, it's pitted pretty bad on top of it. So my best bet would absolutely be to replace them. I pride myself on being able to track things down, but there doesn't seem to be too many places to find nos Stude parts. I'll check into the Driver's Club Classifieds. Until then, I have to get busy trying to spruce em up the best I can before a show next week.

Am I the only one that looks in Hemmings first? There's a whole Studebaker section. Parts/Pieces and another for whole cars. They also have one of the most extensive lists of marque owner clubs. Start there - heck, you might make a friend.

Iverson in Minn. They just did a '40 Buick Grille for my Dad, came out beautiful, but it aint cheap.

I'll look into Iverson J53, thanks. Not sure if I have the time to ship them out. But good to know for future reference when I'm ready to spend some money and make them really nice.

All I know is alumna weld works on pot metal.It never worked for me on anything aluminum..Im sure youll find someone

I vote for Chromeplaterjosh, I sent parts to him to plate they looked great and was a faster than he told me turn around time !
