Ok, like most of you here, I get too many irons in the fire and buy up cars before I get the current project completed. So is the case with my recently aquired 51 Chevy business coupe. My dad and I are planning on making a gasser out of it and it will obviously have a straight axle under it and wear hand lettering all down the sides.
My delima is what to run for a rear end. I have my heart set on a Halibrand or Franklin Quick Change, but I am not having the best of luck finding any locally and I don't care to order one just yet. But I have been told that Olds rear ends were used a lot in the 50s and 60s and that they were a lot stronger than Chevy 3rd member-type differentials. I really would like to run something other than a 9 inch Ford.... Any opinions on what would be better to run? I am planning on 4.11 with posi if it makes any difference. thanks in advance. |

you must not be looking in the right places with all the circle track racing in mo.if your actually going to race it yes on the olds/ pontiac. but you could probably buy a quick change for what a 411 posi and good axles will cost you. a cheap way to go would be a 57 chevy car rear, will bolt on your leaf springs and 411 for a chev lot easier to find. not as strong as the olds/pont though.

Ist generation big block Camaro 12 bolt is just about perfect I think with the exception you may have to move the perches out a little

Will a quickchange handle the shock load of drag racing on pavement? I'd lean more towards the olds-pontiac.
