Don't know if any of you guys have run into these German flatheads, i've just picked up four of 'em & they all have the Cologne Ford markings cast into them & come with all Bosch 12v electrics & a solex carb.
The distributor is mounted at the rear like the big Lincoln & has the numbers VG8 BR 63 on it, i need to locate dist cap, rotor & points......any ideas? the existing caps are all smashed so i have no pattern to go on.
I was told from a good source they are of the larger CI but until i pull a head to measure the stroke i can't confirm that.
Maybe our German Hambers can help on this one.

I know what you mean, i had a mallory duel point in a Cad 331 about 15 yrs ago & remember that rotor looking very simular & the cap was a two piece thing that had to be pulled apart to remove the leads.
The remnants of the Bosch cap showed it was fairly std looking & the leads just pushed in,
but you are right it does look like that old Mallory one.

Well as you have 4 you could send me one then you wont have to look for a cap! [IMG] Looks like a Mallory to me also.

  10. Are there any Bosch numbers on the distributor that would help?
What is the diameter of the distributor at the top?

The "G 29 T" on that and various characteristics shown in the block pictures mean that the thing is basically a prewar Merc/Heavy truck pattern big bore flathead, despite the time of building and the new type heads. Interesting that Ford updated the German engines with new type heads (still with the "29" designation) but kept using the prewar block patterns. Have you found out yet whether it has full floating bearings or late type and whether the valves are straight or mushroom foot?

MR 42 thanks for the link & the better pics [IMG] they are the same with the cologne markings as the ones i have, although i have pm'd Flatordead i would like his e-mail address also.....thankyou.
Bruce i've not pulled any of these apart yet, but as you said i was told big bore truck & simular to Merc.
Its turning out to be quite a good score......if Flat Ernie is reading this he'll be pleased as one has his name on it!

I´ve just called my local " since 1928" Bosch dealer and asked for the Dist#. Only thing he found out was that your dist # should be VG 8 BR 163, not VG 8 BR 63. The new BOSCH # for the whole distributor is 0231 108 005. I´m afraid he couldn´t find out the cap number although he had contacted Bosch directly.
But I´m sure Mike "flatordead" is able to help you out.

I´ve been told by "Mr. Bosch" that they still sell those distributors #0213 108 005. So I guess caps should be availible directly from Bosch...
