Just got the word that Boyd is in very bad shape in the hospital. Doesn't look like he's gonna pull through this one (hoping that's NOT true). I know new guys like to use him as a referance point to the "anti-traditional" - but for those that have been in this for a while you have to know he's one of the family. He's a rodder, a pioneer and very sad to have one of our own go out this way. Say a prayer for him and his family. Jim :(

Just read the feature on the Silver Bullet (circa 1974) on Sunday. I can appreciate his roots.

His health has been a problem for a long time. Has fought liver problems for a long time- but he's down for the count this time. Not many Hot Rodders have achieved world wide first name recognition- he made his mark.

The least we can do- I wish him the very best.

I can't think of a time I would rather be MORE wrong than right now. I hope a miracle will pull him through this!

I sure hate to hear that. He's not my favorite builder, but so what? The man is an icon in this hobby of ours. Wishing all the best for Coddington and his family in this time.

The links above are from a month ago, apparently Jim has new information that is not good.

His style is not my style, but I certainly appreciate his work and his accomplishments. Best of luck to him and his loved ones. I wouldn't wish this on him.

Health is a very delicate thing- you can only wish that someone has a greater plan we do not know about. I just tried to add what I was informed of by people who really care about him. I don't want to sound so grim- I do hope I'm totally wrong. Just wanted people to know one of the legends is not doing well.

  20. That's horrible news, sure hope he pulls through. Thanks for keeping us informed Jim.

wow...i kinda feel bad about coining the "grim reaper of hot rods" name for him on here a couple years ago. despite where his style and tastes lie right now, he is a legend and did a LOT for this hobby. i have seen some of his older stuff and really do like some of it and my thoughts will be with him and his family to a full recovery.

Not my style either, but I can respect that he has definitely achieved a great deal and I have great respect for the fact that he does seem to really honestly do it the way he wants to do it and at a very high level. On top of that, it seems like he is actually a pretty decent guy and I am sure with lots a family and friends who would miss him dearly if he passes. He seems too young to me with potentially too many good years left. I wish him and his family nothing but the best.

Were not talking about style anymore. Were talking about a man, a life, a husband, an employer, a builder, stylist, painter and someone who has brought attention to a style of the car hobby that many Americans were unfamiliar with.
Hey, the guy was featured with a major story in the Smithsonian Magazine.
Not everyday you see a flamed rod on the cover of that mag!
    Hope that he pulls through...
