You can get in with or with out the body up, It is a original Fisher/Horning 12 port head.
I'm still looking for a good 270/302 core with a 6 bolt crank, some where close to me . |

Very impressive Marshall. That's how it's done. Steve was telling me about this one. Should be really cool. Will it be done for the March Meet? Perfect proportions. Are you going to flare the ends of the exhaust or leave them that way?

Way cool thread. Great car. I'm working on a similar project, restoring The Last Logghe altered. It also has an inline six. But it is from a later era (1970s)

Its been a few years, but I was able to buy all of the guts for them from SPE. They has a rebuild kit with the shim pack, bearings, etc. Mine had chips off the scroll and a "lumpy" feel. I also converted it from gear oil to grease.

It's really encouraging to see altereds getting some play and attention... There's no denying that they played a big role in the hairy success of drag racing's past... While not getting the same degree of recognition from "mainstream" nostalgia novices as the diggers and floppers, for those of us who know better, we're aware of the drag strip "romance" associated with them... The ones pictured in this thread are beautiful... I commend anyone who is in the process of building an altered, you're courage to travel slightly off the proverbial beaten path is most admirable... Altereds hold a special place in the hearts of those who REALLY know their drag racing history... "The Doc" (Celebrity Drag Racing Authority & Visionary)...
P.S. here's a youtube video titled "Ode the the Respirator Mask" that featured some "Winged Express" shots... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTrvVi7C_Qg |
