I searched the forum did not see old thread so here we go. I have all ways been a big fan of the plymouth but pre war. I have been looking for a 38 coupe for a long time and could not find anything in my price range. I found this 48 coupe in a back yard in the small town I live in. Ended up trading an old 1990 chevy truck that was broke down for around 9 years. Had 290,000 miles - I think I might have got the better deal? I live in hard core Chevy country. All the years I have been going to car shows in the central valley I have seen 2. Lets see some love if you got some. I will start with my rust bucket. Not much but im sure there is a lot of Hambers here that can relate.

The ' coupe is a good looking car. The slanted B pillars helped a lot. Nice solid bodies and eve the dash wasce. Some of the Desoto an Chrysler coupes were classy and well built, doors closed like a vault. A little shave here and there, and some solid colour paint, like egg plant... and they were great looking cars. Those spiders look good too. Funny we don't see more of these ,lots of potential and should be availablle reasonable. An all white tuck and roll interior would be awesome ,lowered a bunch too.

AND the original paint color is "Cruiser Maroon", same as my first 48 Plymouth 5 passenger Coupe and 48 Plymouth Woodie Station Wagon.
My first car was a black 47 Plymouth 4door sedan. Over the years I've owned 6 or 7 of these wonderful dependable very driveable cars including one 42. Last edited by pasadenahotrod; 12-22-2012 at 10:50 AM. |

Yes the og color was a maroon. The guy I got it from had painted it black in 1973. It was parked in 1983 in same spot till I took her home a little over a year ago. Most of the black came off with a little rub. This is what I have left. I am going with silver paint and all white tuck and roll. Seats in shop now.

I've got a chance to get a Desoto fairly cheap, already forgotten the year but she's in fairly nice shape considering. See my avatar. Paint was blue, US Gov. olive drab then blue on top of that. Odd.

Not my car, it's one I downloaded from another forum. But I'm pretty much a Ford guy and I have to say that I'm absolutely in love with the lines on these coupes. IMHO, with just the right mods, they have the potential to be some of the coolest customs out there. Makes me want to start looking around for one of my own to paly with.....

here's my Australian 46 Dodge (actually a Plymouth. You can't see the curved c pillars that differ from the US ones. Nevermind. I really must drop the nose of this car and kick the rear up a bit. I reckon these cars look best with some rake. I've got some L78s for the rear tyres too

The first hot rod I built in 1983 was a 48 Plymouth P-15 business coupe. Installed a 400 SBC with a 400 trans, found a Mopar posi rear end from a wrecked Dayton police cruiser. Put a bunch of louvers in the hood and painted it brown. Had a great time with that car. Sold it and have never seen it again.

Cool Thread Hkestes. It seems a few more of these old mopars are popping up. Parts are very pricey though "hop up stuff for the flaties". Did they not make very many back in the day? intakes/dual exhaust, Or were they not popular and went in the recycle bin. I see the same parts for Chevy for half the price.
