Just another update for those that are interested-this weekend I put some new sheet metal in so I finally have a trunk in this car. There was nothing left of the metal in it other than what was directly above the gas tank. I know, it doesn't have any bead rolling...Also, the tailpanel was completely rotted out so I'm trying to reproduce that. There is a bit more to go so I'll be able to put some new weatherstripping in but at least it's a start :)

  2. Looks good. I'll be doing that in my 50 dodge at some point. So what are you gonna do about strengthening it??? How thick is the metal you used???

Strait-Edge, I used 18 gauge sheet metal. It will have two supports that run from front to back that are also used to mount the gas tank. From what I could see in photos of other '59 trunks, there weren't many bead rolls used. If I have problems with oil canning, I'll add some reinforcements underneath. I was in it sitting and standing with no problems so far...A '50 Dodge huh? Cool, I have a '50 Desoto to work on after this one.
