It started as an idea about 3 weeks ago…..how about we make to it the Round Up this year (for the first time)? The next day, we got our rooms, and registered the car to make it official. We just started driving the car about a month ago, and are still in the shakedown phase (about 300 miles on the car so far), so heading to Austin from Michigan in the car didn’t set well. We borrowed a trailer from a friend, and headed south….and actually we were picking up a couple of transmissions and other parts anyway, so we needed something to haul them in.

We left Michigan Tuesday after work, and drove through the night to KC. We made KC our halfway mark, and stayed at my parent’s house. We got into town Wednesday late morning, and got the car out to cruise around town. I caught up with some friends that I hadn’t seen for a while – including stopping by John Swander’s shop. He was just getting back with the Jive Five coupe to prep it for the road trip to Austin the next day:

Thursday morning, we headed for Austin at 4am, and rolled into town around 3:30pm. After getting checked into the hotel, we got in the car and started to get familiarized with the area…..found Austin Speed Shop, the hot spots on Congress, and the fairgrounds. We caught up with Swander that evening and hung out on Congress.

Friday morning, we hit Juan in a Million for a breakfast taco before heading out to the show:

One of the first things we did once we got there was walk the swap meet. We picked up the pair of ’32 shells, and did some creative organizing to fit them in the roadster along with our other things:

Great pics man. I have a few aerial shots of you from our room. Right about the time you were unloading the pair of grills. I'll post them up shortly.

Nope - that's not mine, though it looks nice

Chris - once we found out that Lee McBee wasn't playing there Sunday night, we decided just to make a pitstop in KC and get back on the road that evening. It sucks, because I used to love going to BB's on Sunday nights when I lived there.
