Default Common Courtesy responding to PMs

Why can't people simply answer a PM? On more than a few occasions I have sent a PM with a question that I didn't want to take up space on a thread with and have never been answered. Not anything. Not even a go take a hike. I find this very rude. I know i'm not perfect and have probability not answered someones PM in the past but I assure you that I never blatantly ignored someones request to communicate. I think I'm just grumpy this morning.

Sorry for the rant

This has happened to me when the PM seemed to require more thought or a lengthy reply............in fact, this thread reminded me that I have failed to reply to a PM in just the past few days.......Thanks!

LOL I deleted some PMs a while back, DOH.

I don't know that anyone is required to answer a PM any more than anyone is required to answer the phone or an E-Mail. It would probably be nice if everyone did but life just isn't always nice. Which reminds me, my legs are killing me today.

Remind me not to give you my phone number.

Yea it would be nice, but why would you think that an unsolicited message required any response.

I answer the PMs that I can. But nonsensical PMs that are the automotive equivalents of "where do babies come from" get the junk mail treatment.

I always respect your posts. I think if someone is going to go to the trouble to send a PM they deserve an answer. Nothing long and drawn out. Something simple. It's like when someone holds the door open for you. You say thank you.

I understand your legs, my back is on about a 7 on the pain scale today.

I guess I should have specified in the post what type of PMs I am talking about. I have never received a whimsical PM on this board. I agree with that statement. I am talking about person to person automotive related information sharing questions. I thought that's what this community was all about? Don't worry about the phone number, I doubt I would call you, but if you called me from this board with an auto related question I would surly call you back.

I understand completely. I've got "friends" who half the time don't respond to my e-mails or phone calls. Sometimes I feel like Rodney Dangerfield. Often those same friends who I send a "real" typed out e-mail to will send me some dumb-ass politician bashing "forwarded" e-mail the next day! Guess it's just a sign of our times. Respect and cordiality are becoming things of the past. And forget about gentility...............Don.

Look at it another way -

Nobody has a right to place demands on my time. I may give my time (to answer a PM, email or the phone) but don't get butt hurt if I don't.

I like the way you look at it. I agree. You have to remember though there might be a time when you really want to exchange information with someone. Just be prepared to go it alone.

As I've grown older, I've come to embrace a philosophy of not placing expectations on other people, even relatives. As a result, I'm often pleasantly surprised when shown a kindness from someone. Offense is taken, not given. You cannot be insulted or frustrated by other people's actions unless you choose to be. I still choose to be, sometimes, but it's usually when real harm is being done to me (government actions, etc).

Agreed OP
Its insulting when someone will not answer especially if you’ve had been talking back and forth already…. Its kinda like when your talking to someone and they just turn and walk off not saying a word.

There’s several here on this site that do it every time and hopefully reading this (insert inverted bird here)
