Technical 1954 Chevy Cable Wiper Drive Question

I bought this car recently and am trying to sort it ou to where everything works as it should. Yesterday, I finally removed an upholstered panel that had bee installed to block off the underneath side of the dash. Jesus Christ! They stuffed everything (AC, stereo, wiring, etc) under the dash and you can barely get to anything or see anything.

The wipers have been converted to electric but the original cable system remains. Mthe PS side works fine but the DS is sloppy and only makes a partial sweep. Where is the adjustment for this Rube Goldberg mess located? How do you tighten it up?

Also, who makes quality blades and arms for this car?

Get a manual. IT will take you a couple of minutes and it will all make sense. You got to have a picture.

The cable on the DS has some slack in it. I just need to know where the tension adjustment is accomplished and how best to do it.

I am not aware of any adjustment. I have used the electric replacement motors on two cars and I find they limit the swing compared to factory or even the cable (in tube) set up with the motor placed in the the kick panel.

There is an adjustment, it is in the manuals, I assume all the GM cars of this era are basically the same. I have a Buick manual in the shop but right now we are in a severe thunderstorm warning with tornados so I am not going out there now. If no one has the answer I will look it up tomorrow morning.

put in a used cable and stand on the driver side, dont hook up cable backwards i tried to fix that but did it wrong

if your seat is in way take it out , i can lay on floor in front of my seats and its the nicest car i got to work on under the dash

same as my 56 Buick, you just need to push on the wiper spindle from the outside of the car to release the pulleys and the internal spring tensions the cable. If that doesn't work you may need a new wiper spindle, they can sieze up.
