Strongly thinking about lowering my 57 Buick Special. Does anyone on here have any experience with this particular model?

I am considering new Eaton Detroit springs made 2" shorter than stock, but I am open to suggestions and or advise. I am not sure if 2" will be enough of a drop and that is as low as they will make springs.

I drive the car alot and dont want it to ride like a brick but I really am not digging the stock stance!

thanks in advance for your help!

Less costly approach is to find coil springs with same width and coil thickness but shorter highth and swap them in. There are a number of threads on HAMB with spring conversion charts. Check them out.

67-72 Chevy truck rear drop coil springs will bolt right in the rear of those Buicks and you can get them in a bunch of different drops

I was considering cutting a half a coil at a time on the front of my 55 Century. If it rides bad I have another set of springs to replace them.

Just a reminder that the springs in it now are likely sagged by age and the lowering springs you put in may not drop it as much as you think. Experienced that with my Olds which needs to be lower than it is.

Here are some springs that may be of interest to you.

The 586 is listed as standard, the difference in "compare height" is the approximate drop.

Remember you only have 3.5 inches of upward wheel travel. If you drop it 2 inches you need shorter installed shocks and trim the bump stops to get some back.

Has anyone used the 3" drop springs that Jamco sells?

I used Eaton springs in my 56. Great service and perfect fit. Don't know if the 57 is the same, but mine has pig tail ends, so you can't just cut them down

    deadendcruiser,

I looked at Eaton but they only offer a 2" drop while Jamco offers a 3". I was looking for more than 2" drop if possible

Do you have any pics of your '56 with the drop done you could post?

Eaton is close to home and I would like to support them but as I stated they only make 2" and I'm worried that won't be enough.

Let me know how you go. A lot of the info I read on other forums suggested 3" was too much and they had scuffing issues but that was on 54's and 55's.

Am looking at dropping my 54 so will subscribe to this for sure!

    Oddcraig,

What do you mean by scuffing issues? I saw a post by some one on here by I think it was nickrodder who lowered his 3" with a Jamco kit and was very pleased.

Would you mind measuring the free height, coil wire diameter, I am curious if they are close to the GNX spring 5606.

Question: you use the word 'drop' frequently when talking about these springs. Is Eaton Detroit offering a 2" SHORTER spring or a 2" Drop spring? They are not the same thing. A 2" shorter spring will drop the car more than 2".

Likewise, when you say Jamco offers a 3" drop spring, is that merely a 2" shorter spring that results in a 3" drop or a 3" shorter spring? Terms have specific meaning and, in this case, it would be useful to know which is which.

Jamco, service sucks! You pay with order and 2 months later you get your parts. Not good!

I am sorry for the confusing use of lingo. I believe one offers "2 lowering and the other "3 lowering. A

    Mr.32

I have read mixed reviews and truly hope I do not have a bad experience. I spoke to Aaron at Jamco and he assured me I will have my springs by the first of July.

I ordered from them because no one local to me offered 3" drop springs and one guy on here recently ordered the exact same thing for his Buick and was very satisfied.

Looking way better after the spring install!

Rides a bit stiffer but corners much better!

Now the search is on for shorter shocks.
