Last fall I sent my deuce speedo out to Rusty in CO for repair. Put it back in and it worked perfect, was on the money and quiet. Good job. Yesterday I'm coming home from the deuce meeting in Lincoln, running about 75. I checked my speed and the odometer caught my eye. All 5 numbers had aligned and the odometer was just spinning around and around. The trip meter was working as was the speedo. after some more miles everything quit? Middle of the week the pickup was scheduled for some more work so we'll pull the speedo and check to be sure the cable is turning or if it's twisted off or the 90 degree adapter on the trans took a crap. Hopefully Rusty can get me going again? Maybe it's unreparable. I sure liked having a speedo rather than the Gamin I ran last summer.
interesting..the time when it has all the numbers aligned is when things get difficult. He'll probably be able to fix it.
Those Speedo’s are hard to find and expensive. I disassemble one and thought I repaired it. Lasted about two miles. I ended it reselling the broken one and was lucky to find a replacement. The buyer was aware the speedo had issues and it still went for a good price.
Finally got the repaired speedo installed and it works perfect. Rusty said the SW speedo has a shear pin in it which saved further damage. Thanks again to Rusty for his great work.
Rusty is the man, has repaired 3 speedometers for me in the past and found me an original NOS 1954 Ford speedometer still in the box. HRP
Gary Sorry for the inconvenience of you having to pull it out again. Glad it’s working again and hopefully we won’t have any more troubles. Thanks for your patience. Rusty
When an odometer turns multiple like numbers IE 54,444 or 49,999 they tend to lock up because it’s required to turn over four wheels at once. It’s too much tension and strips gears and locks up solid, since the odometer is the last gear in the chain of four gears it then can strip or damage one or more of the gears behind it. That’s what happened to Gary’s speedometer, luckily on early SW speedometer odometers there is a sheer pin that breaks so the other gears don’t strip. So glad most customers like Gary are understanding about these things.
I don't know didly squat about how a speedometer works which is why I always defer to Rusty @e1956v for all things speedometer related. I've had several dealings with him and he always did me right.
