If you use Tubi Tv, free app, this is a good series with some vintage racing. FF71B327-8E9F-40C9-AC89-0B5334D253A3.jpeg

    Hello,

The weekly Drag Racing news was originally from the West coast dragstrips. But, as the reporters from other areas of the USA came into the scene, the news spread fast. One of the best T-shirts on the HAMB says it best.
    upload_2024-3-17_2-55-53.png
Old News Travels Fast... seems appropriate for the times...

But, as things go, a paragraph written with some E.T. times and speed information turns into a mini list of other competition things, turns into the next top eliminator race as the main attraction and then some. Somewhere down the line. the topic changed and move to stocks, gas coupes and street roadsters.

So, now things are moving right along, with paragraphs to go with photos and the events start to get “clearer…”

    Jnaki

As old as a week’s news is reported and various methods of transmitting the early information from one city to the Westcoast, it gets jumbled and the staff typists at minimal pay, type as fast as they can to get the information down for each spot reporting in place. From all over So Cal, plus the other different areas of the country. Each city having at least one if not more as popularity or region reported.

Minimum wage, fast typing on old typewriters, no time for going back and correcting errors, just type the information as fast as possible. Not just the drag racing result information, but the classified ads phone in by customers and hot rod enthusiasts. Why the rush? Due to the printer’s deadline for the last week’s information/results + issues to be headed out and delivered by Thursday morning all over So Cal + shipping and delivering them by Friday at the latest for other parts of the USA. Hectic to say the least.

So, what happens to the paragraphs to separate important information as we all learned from our high school English classes… one time it gets jumbled together and since it was faster to just type and no one complained, it got accepted by the final editing folks as the theme of the day. Information in print as fast as possible on a weekly basis… better yet, a finished product ready for printing by Wednesday only gave the minimum wage typists a few days, plus the staff had to set up each page as if it was a magazine layout.

    Note:

It may have no consequences to anyone, but that was the method of fast information per week until it wasn’t. Perhaps the jumbled typing and information was the downfall of the publication. Who could spend time and brain functioning to read a giant paragraph with tons of information without a “pit stop” between facts noted? For us, it was the downfall of no more Drag News to read and the elimination of the “everyman and the early hot rod classes for fun racing…” all taken into account. YRMV

Love this car. Stole these off instagram. Guy who posted says he's building a clone for racing. No pics of the project.

Since @65pacecar posted the unstretched landy dart I figured I'd post a shot of the unstretched S&M barracuda. Prolly still a 4spd at this point.

About the same as single engines, it comes down to rear tire diameter and RPM’s you want to turn engine at finish line.
