Just wondering how many folks are out there that have true, traditionally styled altereds ? Speak up and be counted.

I see a lot of Gasser organizations and clubs out there but not much on the altereds.

    My beater.

The Crosley is mine. Not a true altered as it is not a center steer car. BTW, the dragster is mine too.

I built my Coupe years ago to resemble a early Hot Rod that doubled as a C/A on Saturday nights.

We're still hanging in there. Lots of Gasser groups, not so much for altereds.

One year at Bowling Green there were 57 cars running comp. I believe NHHR rules define the class as center steer altered, dragsters and left hand drive roadsters (mostly super comp cars). No question there are traditional style altereds that aren't center steer though. More recently the field has been 20-25 cars I think. We don't get anywhere near that at local nostalgia drags.

All the posted pics are great. Altereds are cool.

  21. Dave, saw your car in Kentucky, that is one beautiful ride.
pnevells, I caught your guys at Beaver Springs a few years ago. Nice cars and great show.

  22. As close as I have gotten so far. Was a 60s drag car in several different configurations . Does street and strip duty now. WIN_20150412_144051.JPG

  23. Altered are not required to be center steer, it is a wheel base engine setback thing, more then anything else well that and sitting on front of the axle.

Behind the axle or above it digger style it usually falls into comp coupe of dragster class if I am not mistaken.

I own part of an altered does that count? I wish I had pics of it in its hay day.

Dave, Do you know who built this body? Was it a modified street body, or is it a race weight body? I have been looking for something like this for my chassis.

It's a race weight body with the doors glassed shut and the roof cut out. A 'glass company from the Tampa area made it back in the 80s sometime. Their business card is glassed into the inside of the hood but I can't remember the name. They were still in business 15 yrs ago.

Wraymen, I haven't seen that picture. It looks like I should have already let off the gas by looking at the wrinkle in the slicks. It must have felt good at the time. Ha.

The Drag N Fly is my idol from the time I first saw a picture 10-12 years ago. We still have to stage up together one day.

Great pics all around. Keep posting guys.
