Bobs_Air_Mail_Svc_Station_1.jpg Bobs_Airmail_Night_View_ca1938.jpg It's interesting, that the propellers spin at night for the local fill-up passerby's....imagine trying to do that today and that roar of the engine in the neighborhood !!!

A vital Pan_Gas_1920s.jpg scene at the local gas station nobody see's anymore!....My grandpa still used the 1 gallon adjustable ''oil spout'' pitchers on his cars and trucks when I grew up in the 60's....he bought in oil 50 gallon drums, and it was always messy, dripping and spilling no matter what ya' did....I got to clean the barrel and floor every day for a whopping .25 cents a week, as a 'chore' in his shop with sawdust and a big broom and rags....good times!...LOL...I still remember that smell of forgotten oil in places I couldn't get at!....cool pic!

Does this 1960 T Cohn Superior Service Station count? I had this at the age of 4-years old and just bought this one off EBAY. Aaahhh, the memories. Fill it up with ethyl.

The newer photo was taken in the same location as the older one. The station is now gone.

I wish this picture was clearer - but this Standard station took up 1/2 a city block in my hometown of Barstow, CA. The shoebox ragtop is heading east on Highway 66, (Main St.) the connecting street at the station is the beginning of Highway 91 (1st street) - the only route between Los Angeles and Las Vegas at this time. The entire station, which had about 10 pump islands, was under one roof. During this period, this station pumped more gas than any other station in the country - pretty big braggin' rights for small-town folks. Barstow\'s first traffic light.jpg

Had one of those when I was a kid. Bought one again about 12 years ago, I was 50. Sold it, don't know why other than stupidity.

I wonder how many of these cookie-cutter Gulf stations were built. I worked in one identical to this in the high school years, early '70s.

I think it's cool also, Ron.....but I think I'd get a bit ''bottle-necked'' in that reality after a short while:confused:....ya' know, "No square walls"?....every time I'd walk around in the rooms, I'd be thinking I was 'swirling' along the edges of a bottle uncorked. I had a friend who lived in a totally round house, and said it drove him nuts after a while, because nothing was 'uniform'....he might have a point now that I think about it...but still...it's a nifty looking gas station, and I would buy gas there, just because it's so unique;):D

  26. I see a old station similar to this just a few blocks from the main square in the small town of Hartwell, Georgia that been closed for a number of years & I think the same thing every time I drive by.

Come to think about it,I have business in Hartwell tomorrow and will try to remember to take a photo on my way back home. HRP

The first Hi-Ho bbq/gas station in 1933. This was in Hammond, Louisiana where i went to college at. The gas station is gone but the bbq joint is still there. Only two items on the menu bbq pork sandwich and bbq beef sandwich. Only sell drinks in bottles. Man i survived many a hangover with bbq pork sandwiches and barqs rootbeer image.png
