Technical Lincoln push buttons, how do you get them to actuate?

I have always loved the looks of them, but never understood the "How". How in the world, does a plunger on a 35-40 Ford open the door? Are you just actuating a contact for an electric solenoid?

It's just a "through button". So you would either need a latch like a 60's car that needs a button pushed in, or a bellcrank to convert the inward motion to another direction. Not really a lot of room in that area to fit a solenoid behind the button (window in the way). Maybe a bellcrank could operate a solenoid, but why introduce electrics into a purely mechanical system?

Thanks K13, for whatever reason the only one that came up in my search was from way back in 2005 and it wasn't really what I was looking for.

We used them on the interior of my dad's '33 roadster, and I added tabs to use a microswitch to astute solenoids,
