Here's the kind of VINTAGE shot we live for on this thread! :D They don't show up often,
BUT they are worth the wait -- especially when they're INSTANT CLASSICS like this!

Fantastic VINTAGE junkyard shot, originally posted by HAMBer SWI66 of Buffalo. Anybody

out there know the LOCATION? There's about a '47 model in the background, so would
this be about mid- or late-50s?:confused: If you look at about 10 o'clock, just off center of the
photo, do you SEE the Chrysler or DeSoto Airflow?!?

    <!-- / message -->

Now look, down LOW and just left of center:rolleyes:: See the golf-bag door in the body

panel? Some pretty spiffy autos went for scrap, even into the 1950s, eh?!? :(

Thanks, TatteredFordGuy! That's WHY I and the other regulars, plus valued visitors, are here, man. Old cars & trucks sitting neglected -- whether still today or many decades ago -- are both sad to view, yet somehow fascinating to look at and dream over! It's not the fastest thread, post-wise, on the HAMB, but I don't care. One cool pic is worth 10 trash ones.

Hey, help us keep new blood coming to this thread, will ya? Just vote us a 5-star rating in the box at the top of the page, bro! THANKS!

OK, Jimi, where's it at? I've scanned this pic and don't see anything newer than late 30's or early 40's. This screams pre WWII scrap drives to me.

So what do you think this is? Late 20's Chrysler?

Dammit Jimi, I'm still lookin fer the 47 ish car in the background!

BTW, at the 9 o'clock position, on the ground next to that 4 door sedan, there's a 3/8 coarse thread bolt about two inches long.....anybody know kind of car it would come from? :D

Way in the back, by the gate. My WAG is post-war Plymouth or Dodge.
Being newer, it was probably somebody's ride, not junked.

Well, I think Caddy, Packard, Moon, Kissel, Auburn, Olds, Chrysler & Nash offered golf doors -- probably others too. But from the slope of the rearend assembly there by the two doors (missing trunklid), I'd gamble on Chrysler.:p

Oh, and that bolt on the ground?
    Hupmobile. :D

Folks, I think I can almost stop keeping track of locations of junkyards in the world. Here's
NORWAY.;) So, on this thread, we've recorded photos of old iron from ever part of the world
EXCEPT maybe the continent of Africa (and we DO have HAMBers there!:)).

I have to say, when our regular Frankie isn't contributing something COOL, he/she is
forwarding keen pointers to vintage tin!:D I'm happy to share this photo -- crisply com-
posed and with vivid color -- from a boneyard near far-off Otteid, Ostfold, NORWAY.
This was collected by FlickR member Peter Bromley.

Reportedly, in this frame we have at top a Ford Consul or Zephyr Mk1 and, to the right,
a Hillman Minx Mk 3 or 4. Anybody wanna WAG at the car on bottom??? There was
a link, if it works. Reportedly some 500 foreign and U.S. cars! (Otteid, Ostfold, NO)

    I am a dude....DUDE!!!
Do I come across as a woman to you??????
Well, maybe I am a little bitchy right now.:eek::D
    Glad you liked the link.:)

  17. By the looks of it, the whole left corner of the yard is full of Chrysler Products. The rumble seat car with the golf bag door looks to be a 1931 Chrysler.

31Dodger, THANKS for savin' my bacon, DUDE! :) Besides the other cool cars in there, a DeS or Chrys Airflow is in the middle;), and a late-'40s daily seems to be up there by the gate. Poeple couldn't even SEE the golf-bag door. AND, you say it's probably a '31 Chrysler. THANKS!:D

NOW. What is the coarse-thread bolt on the ground? I still think it from a Hupp.:p

(Seriously, though, would you take a WAG at the YEAR the PIC was taken???)

From the license plate, I'd guess this '35 huffed in 1957. I'm grateful to FlickR
for the beautiful images of this keen coupe.:) I hope somebody rescued it and
put it back on the street by now!:D

Just judging by the body style, if it was a '47, then wouldn't the body style have been almost the same if it were say, a '41?

Attaching a link to some junkyard cars that are for sale, but most of them need alot of work.

    Click on antique cars.
This yard was covered in the Cars and Parts Annual 1990 edition.

My dad used to work for Pettibone and would sometimes bring me photos of their equipment in use:
(Typically the cars would be burned in a furnace to get rid of the non-metallic stuff before they were crushed and smelted.)

Dang, I love the HAMB. A bunch of guys and gals pool their knowledge and analytical wherewith all, and a previously UN-ID'd photo starts to reveal answers!
I ran across this same pic today on eBay. TURNS out, 33Fordor :Dhad a hint, though this is not a WWII scrap drive.;) It IS a May 1942 pic by a photographer for AP, UPI or one of the other "press" services. A handwritten note on the back says it's from Jorres Auto Parts:) (possibly JONES Auto Parts:rolleyes:).
So, now we're only lacking a LOCATION! Do either of those names ring anybody's bell for old-time junkyard in YOUR neck o' the woods???:confused::confused: Jorres or Jones? Any help?
