Looks like a '55 or '56 Hudson "Hash," thanks to TheTruthAboutCars. It appears
this is just one pic from a book,"Roadside Relics," authored by Will Shiers.
Murilee Martin has a book review (with pics) online, if you want to search it!

One-year-only '50 Buick grille in nice shape! Murilee said that Will shot his own
photos on tour and recorded all available info on the cars pictured. Sounds like
a great coffee table book for only $16!

Newer HAMBer Jazz1 posted this recent pic on another thread, "Sitting and Rotting."
I can't help showing it over here, 'cause I've never SEEN a '56 Monarch before, just the
Ford equivalents. The Merc is in Thunder Bay, Ontario. A real shame somebody couldn't
have hooked up with this keen coupe 15 years ago when it could have been saved and
put back on the road.

Oh, and not only that, the light was decent, and Jazz caught a fetching image of this
"diamond-in-the-rust," didn't he?

I am heading from Illinois to Yellow Stone National Park this August, where can i find a list of old yards or something on google maps that i can hit some yards ont he way out there or back? Any thoughts?

Hey there, Dahmer, and WELCOME to the thread! For best use of your time and gas, it might be worth "letting your fingers do the walking" first. Me, I hate going on total wild goose chases that lead nowhere. RoadKillCustoms, Louisville, seems to have about as thorough a list of junkyards nationally as exists anyplace. I believe it has various search features, so you should be able to get CONTACT INFO and do some research on inventories BEFORE going out on the road. Beside this link (RoadKillCustoms.com), you might also search this HAMB thread: View Junk Yards, Salvage Yards and Auto Recyclers Database .

UPDATE! HarmsWay happened to know the background! It was shot
near Hillman, Michigan, in 1956. He was also fascinated by what appears
to be a human face in the broken windshield. Kind of chilling. He said
he used various scan tools and enlargement, yet it still looks like a face!
Haunted car?

One can only wonder about background details on this OLD junker still life.

Amazing old-time junkyard photo! Sadly, I didn't make note of when and where I
cabbaged it. But it looks an awful lot like it may have been the same Los Angeles
yard in the '30s that we had several LONG shots of, early in this thread. The gener-
al neatness of the yard, plus the "shelves," look familiar. (If this pic has appeared
here before, please, somebody let me know.)

FlickR pro member Panorama Paul took this -- what I can only call LUCIOUS color panoramic shot March 27,
2008, at the Winjland Auto Museum, Joostenbergvtakte (between Cape Town and Paarl) in the Republic of
South Africa. Obviously, this is a a largely outdoor museum rather than a junkyard, but it certainly is a won-
derful shot of vintage tin in a natural setting. Here is an excerpted comment by Paul: "This museum is home
to over 300 vintage and classic cars, convertibles, LDVs, trucks and military vehicles. It is the only museum
of its kind in the Western Cape ... Included are a number of beautifully restored classic and sports vehicles."
I tried to click on Paul's FlickR icon to contact him, but I guess I just don't know how to navigate there. I hope
he doesn't mind my sharing his work here, where several pro photographers have, earlier, either participated
or allowed me to feature their work, with credit to them. Should anyone object, I'll remove the post. Inciden-
tally, in the little over two years this thread has been in existence, THIS is the first vintage tin photo from the
African continent!

I had passed by this thread from the start.Then I found a set of junkyard images on another site.Rather than post them I looked first and found that most of them had already been posted.

This looks like it was taken in the Menominee River Valley of Milwaukee.Note the storage silos in the backround.These weren't tenaments per say.They were mostly 2 family dwelling.Some single family houses.This neighborhood was built following the topography of a hillside and or a creek.I grew up in a neighborhood a lot like this.Industrial,houses built close to one another,and old.

I love the B&W photos! Much better than false color greenish moldy look in the color pics. (please! I mean no offense to those who post those type of pictures, they're just not my cup o' tea! ).

I was gonna ask if these were from down under but I went back and read your header sentence. Fantastic knowing these are from the right hand drive area of the world. Truly some nice tin went to be melted. It's amazing seeing this many American design type of cars with the steering wheel opposite ours.
