I then welded 3 screws to the inside where the original 3 screws were to fit the backing globe holder and held it down with nuts on those screws. So to finish I put the lens in then the globe holder plate and the nuts then later a skim of filler and sealant on the inside around the lens when the cars finally painted . I have to stress I'm no expert just doing what I can with the tools I have I
I'm always impressed when someone takes the time to do a 4 door to 2 door transformation. That's turning out reall nice. The tail lights are looking good also. Doc
New update .. I'm shaving the door handles and didn't want to use electric door poppers coz basically I've seen electric poppers not work and a smashed window later was the the only entry. so I made it all mechanical, I've fitted a bear claw latch ( or similar) inside the b piller with a wire that travels down the b piller and out the bottom inside of the sill / rocker panel . so to open the door just pull the wire I've also made sprung poppers at the bottom of the door just to push the door open so theres no struggle to get fingers in behind the door to get it open door
I've also started on stripping the doors and fixing rust and dents and filling in where the door handles we're. I started on the worse door because the good door has no rust or dents (bonus) and will just get handle holes filled then primed
The door also had a half inch gap between the door and front guard that I couldn't live with so I added round rod to the front of the door to fill it in it worked great and here's the finished door , a skim of bondo later on and I'm happy
Lookun great man !!!!! will whizz by on the weekend and check it out...just had to get a new re-core on my 51 radiator that blew up on the weekend. Lotsa fun.
Av88, you may find those poppers to be in the way of your back seat guest, if you relocate them to the lower part of the door then they will always be hidden and out of the way. just a suggestion looks great Godspeed MrC.
I see what you mean and thanks for the suggestion but I'll just live with it for now I thought about running a cable that comes out just next to the front seat well see what happens later
Haha looks like you Vic boys are doin some two dooring of your own or just buying them done already(i wish i had cash), why the hell didn't we get them here to start with it would have saved us all some time, have ya still got that 53-54 chevvy?
hey ashley, sorry mate on my thread i had no idea who av88 was, man u 2 doored the shit outta that bad boy and quick smart, awesome job, u gunna drive it down to chopped this year, we can have a spinner dirt drag, im keen, keep it up, mine is wearing me out, no life, no time, just car car car but shit its gettin cooler each day.
ha ha ha ha sometimes when they have 2 doors to many, i was gunna just buy a 51 foor door here when i first started looking at spinners like 4 years ago but no offence to anyone i woulda been upset now and be dying for a tudor or in my case a coupe.
Hey des I'm probably gonna bring it to chopped this year but not sure my daughters getting baby sat so might drive my roadster well see , but I always wanted a two door but had no cash ,so I got this car 10 years ago for $800 ,Michael ahrens and I spent a year fixing it up here's a pic when I first got it
Des ....I spent a small amount of money and got it all running I've enjoyed the hell outta it for the last 8-9 years in the mean time I've built my 30 roadster my bros 28 tub ,the log lady's 51 shoebox , half built a 28 two door pheaton for myself and learnt a heap about welding and body work ( I'm no pro but I get by) so my shoebox has worn out a bit body wise so I thought it was time to take the plunge and stop talking about it and just two door it definitely no regrets and thought I'd change some other stuff while I was there So not to far to go I can't wait for this to be done just so I can drive it again
Yeah I know what ya mean I've thought about two doors for years now , I'm pretty damn happy now and I did it which you'd know with your chop is a great feeling
yep still got it! just been collecting all the right stuff for it and saving the money to get it as nice as i want. just waiting for Ahron to finish up Des's Spinner. start later this year is the plan
Good stuff if you got those boys helping you'll have some great work gettin done, getting started is the biggest leap of all can't wait to see what ya come up with
Ok update time well it's finally in colour It is a mid 80s colour from Chrysler called "gold mist" It's my first metallic paint job and is very different to a non metallic to paint, it's acrylic with clear laquer
Ha just realized I missed a part of the build , getting it all in primer and ready for paint ,but we would rather forget those parts anyway , also the paint still needs sanding and polishing it will be shinny
GREAT work. I like it a lot, and with your minimum tools you are doing awesome with it. Good for you. Cheers......
