I’m nowhere near Alabama, but I’ve heard of that place somehow.
    Cool find!

HAMBer "pinstriper", last active on here about 3 years ago must still be clearing out the warehouse. He hung with us at the HAMB Village at the Charlotte Auto Fair about a decade or two ago. I do recall him pinstriping someone's personal defense item one evening. He and his kids are good people.

If you search, you'll find a few threads about that shop.

I am sure that I am among the many people, that admire and would want to buy that "KICK ASS"
G.M.C. long bed panel truck. I would love to know more about it, and what its current power train is.
I would assume that potentially some one in the family will get it.
Grinning to myself, I will start the bidding at $4000.00, CA$H !
    Thanks for posting from Dennis.

It’s sad that many speed shops have closed.

I betcha that’s it. I watch that show, and that name rang a bell when I opened this thread.

  13. Yep. Pickers visited.
lots of old parts still there.
I got the stickers and business card from my neighbor that knows the owners well. He’s grabbed a lot of NOS odds and ends from em

  14. Just walking into that place would be like a Museum. It is sad the loss of the local speed shop and hobby shop. The hobby shop was my speed shop before I got my license.

See the "speed shop" neon sign. @guffey owned that for years, man was it cool.... Dana Mecum was at his place and offered what seemed like enough money for it. I don't remember what it sold for at Mecums auction but I think it was like 60 grand....

    Hey @anthony myrick.
Thanks for the location of the GMC panel truck.
The good and bad about such museums is, the good thing is, the truck is saved and its sheltered from the elements.

The potential bad element is, it's not being driven and being allowed to do what it was designed to do!

If I were fortunate enough to own it, I would make sure it was functional and safe to operate, also fix or repair what ever it needed, keep the paint exactly as it is, drive it up and down the west coast to a various cool car and hot rod events!

I would also have a cool reader board that shared the history of the truck and as much information and history of the former owners!
    Thanks from Dennis.

I know one thing about those chrome generator covers. they have a protective paper coating on them and man is it a bitch to get off after like 70 years....

I live south of Birmingham and a few Saturdays ago, after breakfast down town, I found this place. I had always heard of it and went looking for it. Pretty cool looking place but as it is in an older section of town, the area looks rough. I would love to see the inside of this place. Ever since the other speed shop closed up about 12 years ago, Birmingham hasn't had one. And can you think of a better name for a speed shop?

Who was the other one, SECO? I bought a lot of stuff from them back in the 80's, they even had a store in Tuscaloosa for a while. Haven't thought about them for a while...

neat stuff, thanks for sharing! Amazing it lasted all these years

Looks like early Corvette, too. I guess they made them a few different ways, the early ones were sealed one piece, later used a replaceable paper element?

  27. Not sure. But for $20, I’m in
