Sorry guys. I'm in the process of moving from Kansas City, MO to Milwaukee, WI. Car projects are on hold for a little while until I can find a shop. I'm still collecting parts though.
I need some convertible top header clamps.

Did you ever find those top clamps?

  3. Going to the mothership, huh? Well, KC's loss is HD's gain. At least they aren't moving you to York!

  12. Happy for you to be moving up the ladder my friend, but you will be missed at the Platt City show. I always enjoyed talking with you there.

I will miss you and all the other great hot rodder's in the general KC area. We will have to figure out another meeting point, Des Moines maybe.

I have a feeling I will be back in kc in a few years.

We've moved and in a few weeks I will have a new shop about 10 mins from the house (and on my way to work).
I will start on the rag top this winter.

My projects and parts have been stuffed in here since March.

The 48 is in there somewhere.

  16. Nice! Do you have the whole building? Looks like a nice-sized place!

The entire place will be mine, more than I need at the moment, so I am going to lease a section out.

I actually got to spend some time in the shop today. I need to reset my priorities. I've been messing around with my new 32 coupe. But I want to work on this old ragtop girl.

I don't like most chops I see. Most keep the original radius of the rear window and just lower it. It doesn't seem to flow well.

    This is my goal.

Today I started planning my chop. I made a mock-up guide that I will use to align my chop to. It's a bit crude, but you get the picture.

It's 4" at the windshield and 5.5" at the front of the rear window.

If anyone has done this and kept a folding top and have pointers, let me know.

Yes. I have some work to do to make sure the top folds. I think the links will fold, but concerned once the material is on. Also need to make sure the rear window can roll down.

  22. That's cool I've always loved the styling of those late 40's fords.

Just my opinion: I think the rearward slant of the window tops is a little too "new millenium". Can you make the door's window a bit more parallel top-to-bottom than your EMT shows? That would give it a bit more classic look. Your illustration has more parallelism and looks great. A nice flow but still traditional.

Now, getting all that to fold is sure to be a trick though. :)

  29. I agree that top looks like it's going uphill. I would try to make it more level.
