Got the front motor mounts tacked on. Had to do a little more mock up to see how it's looking.

Yea I had the trans slid onto the driveshaft but no front pumps. I sat my front mounts under the top rail but flat up against it. Looks pretty good to me now.

I've got an A frame with some old bolt-in V8 mounts and they sit at just about where you've got yours. Lookin good!

So a question. On my from juice conversion. If I get early ford brakes, do I use the A hubs on the juice drums or do I need to switch spindles to the ones for the juice brakes?

I.e.: F1 brakes. Put the A hubs on the F1 drums and fit it all up? Or use the the F1 spindles backing plates drums and hub?

Last option would be the 2" complete setup from speedway with spindles to fit the A axle with drums and hubs and complete backing plates.

    Thoughts?

Cut the firewall up and got it back in and did a little mockup. Should have the front bones split this weekend and the from end mocked back up.

Now to find a transmission and build pedals and crossmember.

Get a rear end and get it mounted then it will be a roller again.

Going to either run without hood sides or find a bracket to mount the gen up over the intake.

I personally like the genny sticking out the side, kinda looks like it shouldn't be there. I've kept it like that on mine. Cool looking build.

Thanks man. I kinda dig it the more I look at it. I really wanted to run a hood though but maybe just the top will look good.

    Nice coupe man.

Picked up a 10 bolt with a posi today. Best guess is 70's camero. Maybe nova. It's 53.5 backing plate to backing plate. Gonna look up the numbers but I think it'll work pretty good.

Looks like a "Gov lock" with the big goofy counterweight thing that flings in and out. Guys won't run them off road because they grenade.

Looks like you found a "low" gear ratio axle. Suggest you calculate the actual ratio and figure out if the RPM at cruising speed is something you can live with. Great thread BTW.

The guy I got it from said the stamping on the gears came out to be 3:73-1. I'll look it up. Still can't really figure out what the axle came out of.
    Thanks

    Great build!

I've only seen that type of posi in GM trucks. The 8.5 10 bolt that appeared in 70-73 in cars depending on brand and model has been used ever since. I would suspect S10 from the width, posi type and leaf spring mounts.

Thanks Devin. s-10 did pop up in a couple searches I did online so I think your correct. I just couldn't remember if S-10's were spring under mount like this. Never really messed with em to be honest. That works anyway as S-10 is what I was after. Funny how things work out.

Weekend swap meet score. Complete front and rear 50 F-1 axles. Even has the shock mounts. $100.
    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1470582213.474817.jpg

So the question now is. Do I adapt the front brakes to the A spindle or put the whole spindle and brake assembly from the F-1 on to the A axle?

I like your build and chop! Would you mind measuring the height of your window openings for me? I have a sport coupe that has been chopped (just cut and not welded back together) and a leatherback roof in pieces. I'm trying to figure out how much has been cut in the door and windshield frames.

Oh, and I'm subscribed of course :)

Hey rotten. Thanks. That motor mount is a beautiful piece by the way. I love it. Have you ever seen anyone modify them for the stock fuel pump?

Stopped by the shop real quick and stuck the rear end under. It's a hair wide but I kind of like it. I think it will work with the drag car thing I'm going for.

Pulled the spindles off and stuck them on the A axle and I'll be damned if they don't bolt right up. Nice and tight. Stuck the tires on for a look.

Good to hear the F-1 spindles fit right on. I have the same set up I need to swap onto my A axle. So you just pulled the king pins and swapped the whole assembly?

Yep. I was surprised how easy it was. I have not put the lock pins in yet. I'll monkey with that today but looks like it will work. I've read a little here that you have to grind that big block off of the bottom of the drivers spindle and use an after market steering arm. I'll let you know what I end up doing.

As I'm mocking things up I've hit a snag. The new speedway shackles I have don't fit. The plastic bushing is too big. Now, on the spring after I get the old sleeve out I believe it will work. But the perch looks like it will still be too small. Am I just over thinking it or is this a known problem with the speedway shackles?

There's probably still some metal bushing stuck in there. How clean is the perch? it may look like it's part of the perch from wear.
