Yes the bushings are still in there. Having a hell of a time getting them out.

I'll get a better pic of it tomorrow. I think it's the stock delco re-wound for 12v. I haven't even looked to be honest. I'll check it out and get back to you.

Well I got to play with the coop for about an hour today and I'll be damned if I didn't get the Model A steering box and column to fit. Now the question is, do I swap the F-1 brakes to the A spindles so I can use the A steering gear? This seems like the easiest option because the F-1 steering arms won't work.
    Pic just cuz

Started the rear end mock up and it's way off. Shackles looked good off the car. Stuck it up underneath and they went straight down. No Bueno. Gonna have to modify my mounts to get them out far enough and add a leaf back in to get some stiffness back and mount the springs lower. Looked like a 4x4 when I sat it down.

So moved on to the rusty floors and pulled them out.

Plan is to mock everything up then pull the body and blast and paint the frame over the winter.

Cut out some adapter rings on my cousins plasma table to get the 50 F-1 brakes to center up. I bought the kit from speedway and promptly broke a ring. So we made these from steel and will weld them in.

Should I use the model A grease baffle or the F-1? Instructions say use the "A" but that seems weird to me. Since all the hardware is now F-1.

Got the backing plates finished up so I put the rear end up under it and sat it back on it's own feet. The back will come up some with the rest of the leaves put back it but over all I'm pretty happy with the hight.

its kinda fun to put matching chrome lug nuts on the axles bolts and on some regular bolts so ALL the holes are used, on those after market wheels, knocks the socks off the guys that don't know. i.e. 10 bolt rear end?

  17. Helps to have a plasma table in the family. Is the sbc running and attached to the rear end?

Thanks guys, Yea that plasma table is awesome. We will be building lots of parts for the car with it. Boxing plates will be soon. And no the motor and rear end are not mated up yet. I've got to get a tranny mount and some bones going back to the rear end, get my spring perch placement right etc. it's verily lightly mocked up. I would be afraid to push it more than 10 feet. I just wanted to see it as a whole car again.

  19. Great stance. I really like the A grill. Too many deuce grills anymore.

Thanks man. Yea I agree. Not that I can afford a pinched 32 frame but I really dig an A bone with the stock grill. Little more utilitarian than the 32 shells. Of which are also not in the budget.

Thanks clunker. I was reading back through and was thinking man I just completely changed course from the original idea. I wanted a traditional car but I also want to drive the snot out of it. The little 265 will be plenty calm for the street and the big F-1 brakes should have plenty of stopping power. The overall look of the car is still the same but I'll probably paint it and finish out the interior. I plan to have this car for a long time.

    Couple questions.

Front axle. How many degrees of castor do I want. I'm going to need to pie cut the wishbones to get it right. It's at 0 right now.

2nd. If my frame is level what degree of angle should I go for at the carb mounting surface. 0 to -3 ish? Then +3 on the rear axle?

You want to shoot for 7°
You can pie cut or you could make a few straight cuts with a cutoff wheel.

SBC carb mount angle I'm not really schooled on. I went through a bunch of stuff to get my Flathead around 0° and a 1-3° angle in my torque tube because my frame is raked and my tires are huge. I ended up raising my engine mounts about 2" over the frame rail and my center crossmember up about 1/8" above flush to get everything within acceptable limits.

Thanks man. I was thinking I'd take a cutoff saw and make one straight cut and bend it shut and see where that lands then go from there. Should I be about 4 inches from the factory weld you think?

Oh and it fell apart today.

Engine should be at 3 deg, carb base already takes that into account, so carb base should be level.
Rear should have the same amount of angle.

I played around with the front suspension today and I have an idea.

I split the wishbones, but on the steering side it all interferes.
    [IMG][IMG]

I'll be building a mid motor plate or side mounts for the 265. If I just made that a removable cross member then make a mount for the ball joints I could set it up kind of like they were originally
    [IMG]

And it clears up a lot of the steering problems.

    Thoughts?
