Remove and rebuild the hinges, fit the door in the hole and see if there is a workable door gap or not.

    cad347-16-1.jpg

Not perfect, but good enough to not have to separate the cowl from the quarters to get a decent gap.

    cad347-16-2.jpg

The outer cowl skin is actually not too bad, but it has to go to give me room to fix all the nastiness in the cowl foot area.

    cad347-16-3.jpg

    cad347-16-5.jpg

    cad347-16-6.jpg

Matt at Iron Trap hooked me up with a pair or lower cowl patches.

    cad347-16-4.jpg

And, they fit. I tuned up the boogered up hood latch hole while I was at it.

    cad347-16-7.jpg

Here is the inner cowl structure. Now that it is solid, I can start making everything else fit from there. After I built all this crap, I found that some dudes make reproduction cowl feet. Might have to look at that next time...

  4. Start collecting parts and saving money and combing your local swap meets and classified ads. Also be open to a car that may not be the "dream car" but a cool second choice none the less.
There is no reason why any of us should not have a car that we thoroughly enjoy.
We need to enjoy them now before fuel stations are outlawed.

Just found this thread, I'm in for the ride. Thanks!

  6. Lookin good! I was able to score a great 34 fordoor cowl & windshield locally, all the way up to the top opening. Found a pair of four door doors in Florida. They needed inner and outer bottoms and I used two door, door tops for the correct curve. Doing that also meant I only had one weld to do instead of using the shorter 5 window/four door, door tops and having to fill the gap from chopping the top.

Way cool. Definitely way more cool than your basic sbc or sbf and auto generic street rod. Can't wait to see it done.

Most cars I drag home are missing the bottom 8 inches all the way around, but this one actually had a floor, rockers and subrails.

    cad348-6-6.jpg

Unfortunately, it was all booger welded junk. Lots of layers of metal laid over each other and stick welded together. Lots of lead and porch screen. In the end, it all had to go.

    cad348-6-5.jpg

Now the front cowl feet are in position and the B pillar is located on the bones of the new rockers, this thing is actually structurally sound.

    cad348-6-3.jpg

The back end is hanging out in the breeze.

    cad348-6-2.jpg

This is definitely one of those gets worse before it gets better deals, but now she can start heading in the right direction.

So last we checked in, the little car was clinging to the frame at the cowl and B pillar only. To the rescue comes the FlamedAbone Close Enough To Stock For Me (tm) subrail kit.

    cad349-10-1.jpg

    cad349-10-2.jpg

Now, there is something to attach the rockers and bottom quarter to.

    cad349-10-3.jpg

Cowl, rocker, quarter and wheel well bottom finally attached.

    cad349-10-4.jpg

    cad349-10-5.jpg

    Other side.

    cad349-10-6.jpg

Now to the rear tail pan corners. After I melted all the lead out of them, they weren't too bad.

    cad349-10-7.jpg

Passengers side needed a little love.

    cad349-10-10.jpg

    Made a little panel.

    cad349-10-11.jpg

The tail panel in the hole. Probably not for the last time, but at least that sucker is in there.

    cad349-10-12.jpg

And, there you are. The little body is now structurally sound and I can move on to the cool stuff like figuring out where the front suspension and engine are gonna go.

    Tune in next time. -Abone.

Part 2, engine stuff. Strapped her to the '36 for a trip to the car wash.

    cad3410-14-7.jpg

Got most of the big chunks off.

    cad3410-14-8.jpg

This is the Speed Gems kit to bolt a GM manual trans to an early Cad.

    cad3410-14-9.jpg

Everything pretty much bolted right up, '62 390 Cad to Tremec TKX 5 gear. Had to fool with the pilot bushing depth a bit, but nothing crazy.

    cad3410-14-11.jpg

Wrote a file for the motor mounts.

    cad3410-14-12.jpg

Cut it on the scissors program.

    cad3410-14-13.jpg

These are from the FlamedAbone Form Follows Function Collection. (tm)

    cad3410-14-14.jpg

Here she is, resting comfortably in her new chassis.

    cad3410-14-15.jpg

All the rest of the engine stuff.

    cad3410-14-16.jpg

    She is almost a roller.

    cad3410-14-17.jpg

    See ya, -Abone.

The little Cad will be pretty tame. Mild cam, a four pack of 97s, nothing crazy. I will be running the Cory Taulbert Secret Oil Pump Modification Trick. (tm)

  27. Man, those specialty tools you have. Digital hone program, writing files for motor mounts, scissors program, and the 4F's parts, no wonder this coupe is going to be another bitchen hot rod from your garage. ;)

The motor and trans are where they are going to live, so now I had to figure out the clutch linkage. The throw out arm has to move in the opposite direction of the pedals, which made it a bit of a pain in the ass, but Rube Goldberg was able to give me a hand.

    cad3411-5-23-1.jpg

I usually build my own quick changes, but I don't have any small quickie stuff laying around, so I Gold Chained a complete rear from Winters. Super good folks to deal with and they gave me a screaming HAMB discount.

    cad34winters.jpg

The most caveman set of ladder bars you will ever see.

    cad3411-5-23-2.jpg

Always remember to use your Traditional Pinion Angle Fixture when setting up your chassis.

    cad3411-5-23-4.jpg

    Rear end is in there.

    cad3411-5-23-3.jpg

Pretty sure this is a Model A crossmember.

    cad3411-5-23-5.jpg

Had to flatten it out a bit, but she didn't mind.

    cad3411-5-23-6.jpg

    Finally a roller.

    cad3411-5-23-7.jpg

    See you next time.
