He's not done yet...a turn of the key can change the mood dramatically and maybe the stance will be tweaked...can't recall if this was going to be one color or not either...tinted windows...hmmm...it's going to be a cool build to watch this year...it never gets boring here that's for sure...

I looked...'almost no body or paint work'

Yes I get that things have a way of deviating here and there...canvas like these are many times fluid and I many times say that canvas is in the vision within the fabricators head...

If you take it out anywhere, take it out of the front. The lines of the car slope down toward the front, but the top of the roof runs at a flatter angle.

Jeff has done a few shiny cars, most are black. He loves the matte black though.

I have built 20 something ground up cars in my time and all but one have been black. I did 4 or 5 perfect shiny black cars in a row and I won't be doing that ever again. Not sure what color it will be but it won't be shiny and it won't be black.

PS. The alternator is your basic Denso 45 amp unit you can get anywhere on line for about 100 bucks. The '88 Suzuki Samurai is the same size but has two mounting feet instead of one. Works in a pinch.

It doesn’t have Pontiac power, so all the rules are thrown out the window.

  9. I'd just get the front of the roof down where it looks good. Overall, the height is good.

  10. Yeah, I vote for a clean-and-tidy-up job, but want to ask this: Have you climbed in (and made vroom-vroom noises, of course) and out to see if you have to do a lot of head-tilt to fit? More chop might make that an uncomfortable exercise after a while. (I don't have chopped cars because my neck has been surgery-ized several times and I can't head-tilt like I used to when I wore a younger man's clothes...)

  11. Chop 1 1/2 inches more. More importantly, make sure YOU are happy with it.

I have a month in this chop deal. I never had the whole top off, but I did remove 3/8 from the passengers C pillar and almost 1/2 from the drivers A pillar. So I guess you can't call it a chop, but I did have the whole drivers A pillar sitting on the bench at one point...

Here are some random roof repair shots in no real order.

After all that, holy shit it is finally done. Looks pretty close to the same as it did, but everything is square and fits like it should.

And now for some non-chop related stuff. Here is the Racer Style Manual Window Kit (tm)

Man, that was a lot of crap. See you next time.

I was going to say "*Spoiler Alert* They're always black (and have Pontiac power)." but with the Cad, who knows???

Great progress lately. You repaired all the previous hackery on that chop, well done.
A friend of mine who is our go-to model 40 body man showed me one of his tricks when chopping a car. He takes the roof off then chops the door to where it looks cool, then fits the roof to the door, brilliant!

Not real interesting, but it all needs done. Got the bulkhead installed.

    cad342-18-24-5.jpg

OG dash is pretty decent shape other than a medium coat of barnacles over the whole thing.

    cad342-18-24-1.jpg

Got a pair of glove box doors from Phoenix Machine. Kind of pricey, but they are very nice.

    cad342-18-24-2.jpg

Never fun to drill large holes in stainless.

    cad342-18-24-3.jpg

    Everything mocked up.

  28. Big holes in stainless? Bring it baby... I'm used to putting holes in expensive shit...:cool::cool:.

I worked in a big R&D shop, real black box stuff, spy satellites, cryogenics, etc. They bring me something big on a cart one morning. Whatever it was, draped off with maybe a 2" x 2" spot of exposed copper showing. They needed a 10-32 tapped hole, exactly 1/2" deep on a location that was scribed with 2 lines.

They told me exactly how deep to drill, what type of tap to use... and only water as a tapping medium. I had an audience, some people I never saw before all in suits. It took me maybe a 1/2 hour, but got it done. I was told after that the mystery unit was worth $400k...

Alright, so this is IT! The mirrors and new door handles are the very last things to be mocked up on the car.

    cad343-10-24-1.jpg

So now, it comes apart to finish the chassis and bodywork.

    cad343-10-2.jpg

Might not be an update for a while 'cause there isn't anything interesting happening until it starts going back together.

    See ya, -Abone.
