Hot Rods The view from my office

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Racer29, May 19, 2016.

  1. The job I do to put food on the table and a roof over my family's head is a trash truck driver in South Dakota. This is the land where Vintage tin still thrives or is waiting to be brought back to life. I cover a lot of miles through the week and get to see many things. So I thought I would share those things that would be of interest to the folks on the HAMB. I will update as I see more.

Great area of the country to live in. Every time I visit, I have thoughts of relocating. Thanks for the photos, looking forward to more.

Spent a night in Sioux Falls one November. It was colder than jail.

Great pics, you probably know every alley and access road in town. I used to ask the mailman if they knew of any old cars sitting and they told me about a few they saw sitting.
I'll ask my driver what he's seen.

My daughters love to watch the truck, they run out in the yard to see him make the rounds, bring him a to go coffee when it's cold out. They draw him pictures of the truck and he hung 'em up in the cab.

  11. If you're ever in the area again give me a shout. I'm in Rapid City. And we just moved back here two months ago. Lived here from 1998 till 2006 while I was active duty Air Force and always wanted to come back and I am sure glad to be back.

Very cool indeed, I bet your job allows you to see a lot of stuff not easily seen by others.

I was back there about 5 yrs ago heading east on Hwy 12 from Mobridge to Aberdeen. Just on the outskirts of Mobridge there was a '37 Ford Farm truck ( not pickup). This was the straightest, rust free truck, complete down to the factory hydraulic bed, dual rear wheels and hubcaps on all the wheels. Never seen hubcaps on a big truck like this. It needed a complete resto but nothing was missing. This rig is stuck in my mind ever since. I'm wondering if you ever pass thru Mobridge and if it's still there?
