That 56 was a NHRA E Modified Production car. They were classed by car weight divided by engine displacement. E/MP was 12 pounds per cubic inch so at 3500 pounds it would have had a 292 inch small block. The M/P class was known for 9500 rpm screamers, 50-pound flywheels and 5.86 or deeper gears. So, yes it had a 4 speed. Here are a couple of more pictures for you. The Peace decal was an old NHRA item, that everybody in Division V (5) thought should have been used for the Division logo.

  4. @vinfab - Thank you, wish I had been there ''in the day''. That looks like a Grump Lump scoop(?).

Well it's been a minute. Funny how life can smack you upside the head, or in the gut, and make you change directions for a while.
Finally got the Del Ray on the road. My son's been a big help even with his busy schedule raising 3 kids.
New tank, car had been sitting since 1982, fuel line, carb. Removed the OG power steering and slipped in the delete kit. New generator and all the stuff that goes along with prepping an engine that's been sitting a while. Little gas down the carb and she lit right off, starts now with just a tap of the key. 283 is super quiet but has a slight lope of an unknown cam. No engine or cast iron PG leaks. Old glass packs are toast and ya, the old Appliance headers are a tad low.

As I read your post it resonated with me. Time sure does get away from ya. I too am in the process of getting my htop out of mothballs, she’s been sitting since 1994. Thinking of going with a poly gas tank, if a good one is being produced? Sure hope I can get the ol’ 427 to bark , again.

    Nice hardtop.
I should mention I haven't owned the 55 since '82, just lucky to have bought it in '21.

    Shameless repeat, whatever!
Man Bowie, that color reminds me of how my 57 looked when I first got it.
I should have left it alone but I was sixteen and it was just so "vanilla".

The only ones I have of that car Mark.
Your edited side shot (yellow/white) looks like a fun house mirror photo so I reposted it.
