I did a third version- this one came out more refined everywhere. All done with the hoop exercise. The other one had a wonky arm from the top. I welded in a tapered bung cut off from a spindle flush and burned it in with the tig and put a bolt on drag link ball on it.

The more I work on the coupe the more I want to just go full out race car with spindle mounts and all... the force is pulling me to the dark side haha. I think what I'll do is lighten the shit out of the front brakes- and cross that bridge later. I lightened my axle so much I feel like the brakes will be a stress factor- but I have half cylinders up front and if I proportion the rears to kick in harder I think it'll be fine- just talking out loud.

Can't wait to get the inserts in and everything welded up. It looks so cool on the jig table. I love hot rods!!!

Anyone have nice straight 32 drag link? I tried to straighten mine but I think it just looks like a straightened out piece of wet spaghetti...

    -----------------------

So I'm Z'ing the frame in the front stacking it inside the firewall. Plan to run a F-1 crossmember and pedals... thinking about the rear and maybe... not altering the frame in back just running a reverse eyed T spring over the olds axle... OR I could extend the frame and run and A spring behind. I just need the rear tire to align with the top of the rear fender lip so I can run fender flares. again... just talking out loud.
I also have a 36 rear crossmember I could run with a 36 front spring behind the axle.... hmmm...

It would be a cold day in in hell before I would build a typical "traditional" Model A highboy coupe with a flathead, babyshit brown paint, '35 ford wires and big-ass headlights. But THIS^^ I would build in a HEARTBEAT!

Man... This had a wedge channel before- feeling like doing the same thing and not zing the frame... No kick up either- t spring over and just kick the motor back in the firewall so it's nice and compact like a bulldog.

Just me, but I'd never Z the front frame. It will look too "Y2K rat" ...IMO :)

damn the haters............ wedge channel it again. It would wake up the viewers here, to a real hotrod

Totally agree- just seems more authentic to me- if I were to z it - it would be hidden behind the firewall- but I like the look of the kicked up floor and interior which just seems "right"

If you do z the frame, do it the way Spencer did it, at the front crossmember, it's much more subtle. I agree, wedge channel it.

You know what that wedge does is gives it a look of "perpetual motion" by leaning the cowl forward- Dig it a lot!! Its on!

The proportion actually looks better with the hood on it. Then again it's more "hot rod" without.

Love that picture #315 - the dusty car, the engine+trans, parts all over a table under the lights. Great shot.

I found some 5.60 15 rollers for the front! Time to construct some wheels with the right offset.

I'm gonna use 5" wide 50 ford hoops with 59 Cadillac centers- and wider 6" merc hoops in the back with the same Cadillac centers reversed. I want the Buick drums to show...

The offset on the wheels I have is like 4" and totally engulfs the drum. It's really hard to find 5on5 wheels around here because they fit imperials and they use them in the demolition derby.

Something like 3" or less- this will be fun to make them- I can center them on the brake lathe and weld them up.
