Anyone running white ceramic coated headers? If so, how long or about how many miles on them and how are they holding up. Jet-Hot wants $834 to coat in white. They say there has to be 5 coats.
I do it the old fashioned way, with VHT paint...but then, this is a traditional hot rodding forum, not a high tech place.
There have been quite a few threads on this. The best is a ceramic coating but I can’t recall the trade name or process. VHT finger prints very easily in my experience.
I made some new Zoomie weed burner headers a couple of weeks ago out of stuff I had laying around. Did them in VHT white, the high temp primer first, then 3 coats of white high temp, and cured with a propane torch. Will post some pictures when I get a chance. VHT works for me and many others wanting the traditional look.
I used to use white VHT on the race car headers. They always seemed to turn a bit green when they were hot. The last race car I built I used black VHT. I never did like that green cast.
How about Bugs Stevens blue for the headers? I always likes this look on his cars, I know that VHT makes this blue. http://www.edflemke.com/category/other/bugs-stevens/page/5/

Who the hell cares how it is applied as long as they look good? Seriously? Some of you should be having your cars painted with syphon cups and not HVLP or just rattle cans. More traditional.
I had been considering getting my 1960s headman 3-2-1 headers done and spoke to a guy at a show last year after seeing his headers. His white coated headers looked very "slick". The coating looked thick and the details of the welds and such were lost. They looked great but also looked really modern.
When I was a young boy in the ‘60’s my dad painted our house with a Binks Model 19. I doubt he got it new. At the time he worked for Van Pelts Fire trucks. They did everything in house. They had paint booths, chrome shop, etc. I’d bet one of the painters made him a deal on it.
I like this better than VHT and have been using it for a while now. It's not as thin and watery and goes on thicker. A denser coating, that doesn't easily rub off and lasts longer before needing a re-paint. I haven't seen it change color over time, stays nice.
Actually they do, it has to be shot from one from the 60's. https://totalfinishingsupplies.com/...VibmL2hS7ltzABHZYAz_728oRl5JXrcUaAqaCEALw_wcB Otherwise, it's being a poser.
I’m from the sixties and am told I’m full of old air…………….maybe that’s hot air does that count lol Dan
WOW at $800 I don’t think I’ll own a new one, I used one in the 80s and 90s never painted a whole car with one though, mostly equipment, I did ok but I’m better with a HVLP Dan
