I have always been interested in the NHRA records back in the infancy of drag racing. Just wondering if there was a place where you could see all of the old records? I just wonder what the old cars were capable of with different cubic inch breaks.
How far back are we talking about here? I have a book, "The Sox And Martin Book Of Drag Racing". In the back is the history of the sport from it's inception in 1951 (NHRA); book came out in 1974, so it all stops there. As far as "records" go, it starts in 1960. So, if there's something particular you have in mind, it "might" be in my book. NHRA should have a complete list of ALL records from the begining; I know current records are printed in NHRA's, "The National Dragster". I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
I have a book that lists the record MPH from 1950 on, and some ET records starting 1953. Through 1992. But only the fastest cars, there are no records for slower classes.
In the late 50's and early 60's Hot rod posted a list of class records every month. Those were probably three months out of date by the time we got the magazine. I don't know how far back National Dragster went but they had the new records posted every week. If you know what class and what time frame it can probably be hunted down. Some class records changed weekly but maybe by just more than the minimum.
Here is a list of NHRA Professional and Alcohol National Records from 1953 to now: http://www.printcentralandsigns.com/NHRA/records.html
Something similar to that for the gasser and altered classes. I am interested in the 301 CID specifically. Just trying to see what guys could do with vintage technology.
what years? I do have some of the old Hot Rod magazines, I could scan a few if you can be more specific.
B /Gas record for poirier and slocum in the 1960s i think 11.00 at 130? any one have a copy of this i am sure ralph poirier would like to see it again thanks
So let me get this straight.......I have an 1880 lb car with a range of 285 CID to 626 CID in A Altered in 1961? That can't be right....I'm doing something wrong.
