Hi, does anyone have an original article or source that documents that lowering of the rear axle by blocks is period correct or that such were used back then? This would help me lot with the registration of my ride. Am looking for some documentation for the inspection (which is rediculously strict here in Germany). Thanks!
I used a NOS Fenton lowering block kit (LK4) on my '53 Ford. They were made specifically for '49-'54 Ford cars.
The issue here is what Germany allows or doesn't allow and if there is a viable solution for circumnavigation of the rules that is safe and legal. In this case that may require fabrication of new axle seats that are tall enough to take up the height of the lowering blocks so all you have are tall axle seats that are sufficiently strong and no blocks. You would still have to use the same U bolts. That is IF Germany allows welding on suspension pieces.
