love the full wheel covers and exhaust, especially if it is capped off and run under neath the car through mufflers. kind of wondering about the rear suspension, is that a quarter elliptical set up?
Front suspension looks like later spring ahead axle with spring in "stock" location in frame Wonder how well it ran, Supercharged dual four Y block short wheel base could be a wild ride
i know, right. column shifted too. somebody build that today and they'd put the front axle two feet out in front of the grill shell. i can't take my eyes off this car.
I think it's just on a Model A frame with the rear crossmember almost at the back of the body with a later spring-behind rear. Crossmember may be flattened with a matching spring or maybe the frame is kicked with an A spring. Spring ahead you mean? This car looks to me like it is sitting on 35 up rolling gear to me. I think the offset on the rear is about 7.5" iirc and I think something like 4 to 6 ish inches back off the front crossmember (if someone remembers the exact number, please correct me) but that would shrink a stock Model A WB down from 103" to somewhere between 89.5 and 91.5" which, to me, looks about like what we are looking at here. Looks like this car belongs in that INTIMIDATING HOTRODS thread to me for sure!
The question is...how many "copy and paste"s ago was the magazine there, with the rest of the story on the car?
I love the short wheel base. Not every car/roadster needs the front axle stuck do far out ahead of the frame. Restraint shows well here. r Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
That's a lot of engine on such a short wheelbase. Looks very well executed though, clean even for it's day.
I thought it had polished aprons of some sort but it is really tough to tell with that stanchion rope running right through there and only the one view of the car. But that looks like the wheelbase you would get by putting 35* up front and rear in an A frame to me. I'm just imagining what this thing would be like on a corner at speed. How much does a Y block weigh? I'm inclined to think with that weight centered over the axle, sitting high, and not much else to the car, it might be a bit harrowing. *EDIT: I spot a 3 on the tree shifter. I bet it has a 40+ front and rear too.
