OP should note that was David Freiburger who wrote that in your post.

I was watching today when it happened and all you could see was white smoke then the car went up in the air and the live feed ended shortly after that.

The pursuit of speed has claimed a lot of lives and will likely continue to do so. Pushing machine and human endurance to the breaking point is what our hobby was built on. We have lost some fast people in the last few years. While my thoughts are with his family and friends I congratulate him on a life lived at wide open throttle.

That's not white smoke. That's a salt spray that occurs when there's a crash. Very unfortunate and very sad for Chris's family and friends. RIP Chris and condolences to his family.

It's tragic to lose anyone you love, especially suddenly. But my personal opinion, I would love to GO OUT doing something I loved doing! Way better than having a long lingering illness, which puts a drain on yourself and your family, hope that doesn't sound too cold, but that how I feel. My heartfelt condolences to the family and friends.

I’m with SweetDick, and BanditBilly, it’s a terrible loss but he was doing what he loved pushing the limits to achieve a new record. God Speed and prayers for the family and friends of this mighty warrior.

This is never easy to learn of a crash, that has taken the life of another driver, out on the salt.
The man knew the risks, and he was doing what he loved, at speed!

    My condolences to his family!

There are never enough words that can ever soothe or help to bring peace to those, that have lost a loved one, but this particular older, vintage Elton John song, has always been spot on, as a reminder to all of us!

It should be mentioned that Dave's previous post was about the passing of famed offroad racer Walker Evans.
