I have a 26 t touring car with a rebuilt 60 hp 40 thou over bore 10/10 on the crank I have been picking up speed parts here and there but not sure about anything special I may need to know. I have a set of eddie myers heads and an isky track cam still looking for a myers dual carb intake so I guess my questions are : can I or should I shave the heads and how much? can or should I run the isky cam, can I use stock lifters what carbs should I be looking for 81's ? also have 40 timing cover with new large pumps any help and suggestion would be appreciated the pistons shown are 60 over and spare
for info in books, one to get if you can find it, is The V8-60 Ford's Little Powerhouse by Richard Willim
You can run stock valve springs with a 1/4" spacer under them. That will give you all the RPM you need, especially on a street motor. See if your heads are stamped anywhere with the compression ratio they were machined for. 9:1 is plenty on gasoline. You definitely want 81's. The real hot set up is 81's on 97 bases. Helps the top end without over carbing the low end. Make sure you have plenty of spark running dual carbs.
I would find out exactly what that "track" cam is and what kind of shape it's in before I would use it. Hot cams kill torque, which is what you want in a street driven car. Even though a "T" is a relatively light car, a V860 is a teeny engine.
I have new nos valve springs and keepers and valves . I will look for a stamp for the compression ratio The edelbrock or eddie Meyers intake , is one better than the other ??
That's why I shied away from a hotter cam and went straight to a huffer. Moves my 1,500 lb. Bantam along great. Who is making larger water pumps?
the 1940 engine used a different timing cover and slightly larger pumps . Pumps will not fit in earlier timing covers . Tough to find those forty motors larger crank and connecting rods as well. I have a set of the larger rods ,but no crank or block .
Hmm, news to me. I have two long crank '40 motors awaiting use and both have the same pumps as my '38 motor and my spares, which say '38-40 on the box. The pumps on the auction site are also listed as '38-'40, and McNicholl's book says same. Do you have some dimensions I could check what I have compared to what you've got, or some liturature? I'd love to get my engine running cooler. The '37 pumps of course are different but only in sealing area (tapered vs. straight). http://www.reds-vintage-parts.com/o...-40-v8-60-hp-timing-gear-cover-52-6019-b-used http://www.amazon.com/Build-Classic-Engines-Motorbooks-Workshop/dp/0760327777 http://www.ebay.com/itm/FORD-FLATHE...Parts_Accessories&hash=item51ccf5efe7&vxp=mtr
Either intake will work fine. I would go with a Clay Smith M-3 grind cam. You can still have George grind a new one for you. Good top end and pulled hard off the corners in our midgets.
