Last summer, I was told the Weisbard modified and a very well known Corvette race car were both with a family on Oahu. I dug deep, found the family in question, and charmed my way in… The Corvette was in fact there, but no signs of Weisbard’s car. I have since been told it was sold at auction to someone in So Cal.
Thank you! I went and searched and... umm, it does exist and I am so disappointed I looked. Who ever the owner was when they did this, WTF were they thinking? Appears the Victress body was discarded and an alloy body built, that grille! May as well of used a Farmall grille. The car was so badass, now just a lame representation of prewar modifieds, doing that has completely wiped & hid its significance as well as its history.
if I didn't know what it did look like I'd think it was cool. But what a disappointment now we know what it was.
These pictures are truly amazing. I would bet you are having more fun than us looking through these pictures. The history is very cool. I hope someday they get put into the Peterson Archives or the AACA Museums library. This needs to be passed on at some point. You have so much history in your files.
As said these cars often evolve, but equally sad to see the Weisbard modified late in life deviate from its 1957 Hot Rod annual cover status, but continuing the hunt you may discover the cast-off parts still survive.
Thnx for postin' these boss !! The details in these color pictures of Tom's continue to amaze me. Note the SCTA sticker on the engine at the block and heads. I wonder if this was a "Tamper Seal" so you don't swap engines on a record run ??
